This series of courses (Instrumental Music 10, 20 and 30) is designed to challenge students in all aspects of music from honing their technical skills through performance on wind or percussion instruments to continuing to develop their written and aural skills and learning about the historical context of the music they are playing. NOTE: The “performance-focused” aspect of Instrumental Music known as Band 15, 25 and 35 is not an extra-curricular option. Students who are enrolled in Instrumental Music 10, 20 or 30 are also automatically enrolled in Band 15, 25 or 35. There is also the opportunity for students to join the Jazz Band (15, 25 or 35), which enables students to explore and study the more contemporary styles of music (big band jazz, blues, funk, latin and rock), which have greatly influenced most of the music they listen to today.
